Newsletters 2010

Posted 20th June 2010

As these newsletters are primarily about our sailing life there is a distinct lack of them at the moment. Yanina is safe in Spice Island boatyard in Grenada and for the first six months of this year we have still been very busy in England, project managing the refurbishment of the Watermill, doing a bit of designwork and now with Bob's new book 'Bang on the nose', due to be launched in September at the Southampton Boat Show.

We'll be back on Yanina on the 1st December, after 16 months ashore. Yanina is fine, as long as Grenada doesn't get hit by a rogue hurricane, ** still in Spice Island Marine boatyard in Prickly Bay. Our current plan is to sail up the islands and then on to... well, who knows? We have a lot of planning to do and decisions to make.

** After this was written, a hurricane narrowly missed Grenada in November.

'Bang on the nose'
will be launched at Southampton Boat Show on Friday 10th September. Any of you who are in the UK and planning to go to the show, please come along  to the Kelvin Hughes stand J001 and say hello - I'll be there at the weekend too. And to those of you in the Caribbean, we hope to see you soon if we can.

Thailand and Cambodia

Before heading back to Yanina, we spent 5 weeks in Thailand. All routes seem to start and end in Bangkok and we were lucky to stay with Rob and Margo in Bangkok between our trips to the islands of the South, the mountains of the North, and Cambodia to the East. Here's some photo's.

Christmas at Whisper Cove Grenada

Posted 23rd December 2010

 Whisper Cove Marina

We finally got back to Yanina in Grenada on December 3rd after a delay of 2 days at Gatwick in the first lot of snow. We have spent the last 2 weeks attending to all the jobs as a result of our absence - nothing desperately terrible but metal had rusted, wood had rotted, the batteries were flat, the deck needs new treadmaster, as well as the usual anti-fouling, getting the sails back on, all in 32 degrees C.

Oh - and remembering how to sail. We launched Yanina yesterday and she floated - that's a start.

We are spending Christmas at Whisper Cove marina in Clarks Court bay, South Grenada. There are lots of social gatherings and events that have been organised amongst the yachties that mostly include food and drink. There's turkey and a pot luck buffet on Christmas day, and there's a jam session on Boxing day at 'de Big Fish' that Bob is looking forward to.
